Francis R. Abadie, D.D.S., M.A.G.D.

Dr. Francis Richard Abadie, age 86 and a resident of Mandeville, Louisiana for 24 years, earlier a resident of New Orleans, the city of his birth, passed away on September 1, 2014.

He was the son of Philip and Nephia Abadie (deceased) and the brother of Merlin Abadie (deceased).

Dr. Abadie was the husband of Louise Delort Abadie for 62 remarkable years. He was the father of Renée Durio, Andrée English, Michelle Cedor (deceased), Adrienne Stroble, Jeanine Kuehn, Colette Schwartz, Francis Abadie, Jr. (deceased), and Gabrielle Champagne. He was the father-in-law of Buzz Durio, Mike English, Chris Cedor, Donald Stroble, Dann Schwartz, and Leland Champagne. He was also the grandfather of Blaise, Lyle and Alex Durio, Matthew English, Spencer and Nathan Cedor, Tyler and Benjamin Stroble, Elise Kuehn, Rachel and Jordan Schwartz, Grant, Emma, and Ross Champagne, and the great-grandfather of Cameron Durio. He was very proud of all of his family.

Dr. Abadie was a graduate of Jesuit High School in New Orleans, Class of 1945, and Loyola University School of Dentistry. He was a US Army Dental Surgeon during the Korean War where he served in a MASH unit and attained the rank of Major. Dr. Abadie practiced dentistry in New Orleans for 33 years. He then took a position with the LSU School of Dentistry, where he started the Advanced Education Program in General Dentistry and authored several professional articles. Dr. Abadie served on the Louisiana State Board of Dentistry, was a past chairperson of the New Orleans Dental Conference, a Fellow of the International College of Dentistry, Master of the Academy of General Dentistry, Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, a Member of OKU National Honorary Dental Fraternity, and a member of the New Orleans Dental Association, Louisiana Dental Association, and a life member of the American Dental Association. Dr. Abadie retired from the LSU School of Dentistry in 1997 with the status of Emeritus Professor of Dentistry.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME (IN Metairie Cemetery ) on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 12:00 pm. Visitation on Thursday from 10:00 am until service time.
