Enlisted, April 12, 1917, in San. Detachment, 1st NY Cavalry Regiment, Brooklyn, NY. July 5, 1917 transferred to Headquarters Troop, 1st NY Cavalry. The 1st NY Cavalry Regiment reorganized for the World War as the 104th & 106th Machine Gun Battalions, he was assigned to Company A, 104th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division.


Company A was transferred and designated Company D, 105th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division. After training at Camp Wadsworth, SC, the 105th Machine Gun Battalion deployed to Europe on Mat 18, 1918, from Newport News, VA, aboard the USS Calomares. They docked at St, Nazaire, France, on May 30, 1918.


He saw combat in both Belgium & France. Returning from France, March 6, 1918, aboard the USS Leviathan, docking at Hoboken, NJ. He marched in the " Welcome Home Parade " for the 27th Division, up 5th Avenue, in New York City, March 25, 1919. Discharged from the service, April 1, 1919, at Camp Upton, NY.
