Enlisted in, Troop A, 1st NY Cavalry Regiment, March 1, 1915. Served on the Mexican Border ( 1916 -17 ),with Troop A, 1st NY Cavalry, Regiment.

The 1st NY Cavalry Regiment reorganized for World War 1, as the 104th and 106th Machine Gun Battalions, 27th Division. He was assigned to Company A, 104th MG Battalion. Company A was transferred and designed Company D, 105th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division.

After training at Camp Wadsworth, SC, the 105th Machine Gun Battalion deployed for Europe, on May 17, 1918, aboard the USS Calomares. The battalion docked at St. Nazaire, France, May 30, 1918.

After additional training in France the 27th Division entered the Lines in mid-July 1918. He saw combat in both Belgium & France. Dead in service, Dec. 30, 1918, France, of Pneumonia. Awarded the Silver Star, S.O. 86, 27th Division.

S.O. 86, 27th Division, " For courage and determination in effectively maintaining the fire of his machine gun in the face of heavy artillery bombardment during operations against the Hindenburg Line, France, September 27, 1918. "

His remains were return to the United States in August of 1920.
