Born to Eva Willette (1904-1937) and Joseph Shamrock (Schmereluk) (1891-1957); Eva died when Eleanor was 5 and Eleanor did not know Joseph. Eleanor was raised by her Aunt Josie, in orphanages, and later taken in and adopted by her Uncle Henry and Aunt Paula.

Raised in Luther, NY, Eleanor was class president, a majorette, and featured vocalist of the class of 1950 at Columbia HS in East Greenbush. After graduation, she traveled to Europe where she earned 2 degrees in languages and studied German, French, and Spanish, in Spain, France, and Switzerland. Upon her return, she experienced the heydey of the airlines by working for El Al, Sabena, and TWA, handling the VIPs and meeting many movie stars, singers, and other celebrities.

Shortly thereafter Eleanor met a handsome, younger Marine, and the two soon married and movied to LA to begin a life together. Two daughters were born on the west coast and following a move back to upstate NY, another daughter and son were born. Eleanor began a career as a substitute teacher and also taught adult education classes, home schooled students enable to make it to school, started a girls' softball program, wrote for the local newspaper, and taught CCD classes on Sunday.

Following a move to Western PA in the early 1970s, Eleanor eventually retired from the classroom and began a new career with Calgon Carbon, retiring in 1990. She was very active in her children's lives, and helped start a community group known as Concerned Citizens. A two-time breast cancer survivor, Eleanor contacted local women who were newly diagnosed to offer support and wisdom. She also volunteered as a telephone translator at the Pittsburgh airport to help confused travelers find their way.

Eleanor leaves behind her husband of 57 years, her 4 children and their spouses, and her 2 grandchildren. She also leaves behind many friends, many cousins, and several nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for her skill at genealogy, her green thumb, her counted cross stitch work, and her way with words. (written by damannion)

(Willett) Mannion will be held Saturday, June 6, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church, 667 Columbia Turnpike, East Greenbush, NY 12061. Eleanor passed away on October 19, 2014, in Pennsylvania. She was raised in Luther and was president of the class of 1950 at Columbia High School and returned to teach foreign languages in the district. Eleanor is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years; her 4 children and their spouses; and her 2 grandchildren. Eleanor also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
