Enlisted, May 17, 1917, in Machine Gun Troop, Squadron A Cavalry, New York City. Squadron A reorganized for the World War, as the 105th Machine Gun Battalion 27th Division. He was assigned to, Company C, 105th Machine Gun Battalion. After training at Camp Wadsworth, SC, the 105th Machine Gun Battalion deployed to Europe, on May 18, 1918, aboard the USS Calomare, from Newport News, VA. The battalion docked at St Nazaire, France, October 30, 1918.

After additional training in France, the 27th Division went into the Lines in mid-July 1918. He saw combat in both Belgium & France. Returning to the States, March 6, 1919, aboard the USS Leviathan, docking at Hoboken, NJ. He marched in the " Home Coming Parade ", for the 27th Division, up 5th Avenue, in Manhattan, on March 25, 1919. Discharged as a PFC, April 1, 1919, Camp Upton, NY.
