Enlisted April 3, 1917, in the 1st New York Cavalry Regiment, NYNG, Medical Department, Brooklyn, NY. The 1st NY Cavalry Regiment reorganized for the World War as the 104th & 106th Machine Gun Battalions, 27th Division. He was assigned to Medical Detachment, 104th Machine Gun Battalion.

The battalion was assigned to Camp Wadsworth, SC as part of the 27th Division, for training . In the spring of 1918 he became ill and died of pneumonia, April 2, 1918, Camp Wadsworth, South Carolina
