James "Jim" D. Baldwin, Jr., 71, of Independence, MO was called home to be with his Savior on November 26, 2005, after a long and valiant struggle against cancer.
Jim was born July 2, 1934 in Purdy, MO to Dr. James D. Baldwin and Ruth M. (Miller) Baldwin.
He attended Monett High School in Monett, MO and graduated in 1952 from Fayetteville High School in Fayetteville, AR.
He attended Hendrix College before working as a cowboy on the family ranch in western New Mexico.
He later served in the Army and attained the rank of Sergeant (E5), serving on the DMZ in Korea before being honorably discharged at Fort Benning, GA in 1959.
He retired in 1995 from Ford Motor Company KC Assembly Plant after 36 years of service.
During his retirement years he was actively engaged in serving causes he believed in and was Chairman of UAW Local 249 Retiree Chapter.
He was a member of Independence Masonic Lodge 76, the York Rite Bodies of Liberty and VFW. In 2001 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the local Democrat party.
He was an avid reader, student of history, deer hunter and fisherman. He was a loving family man and a supportive friend who was dedicated to his Lord and Savior and his country. His compassion, faith, strength-of-character and wisdom will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Barbara D. Baldwin, of the home; his son James A. Baldwin and his wife Paula Baldwin; his daughter Susan E. Trimble and her husband John Trimble and their two sons; his son Charles A. Baldwin and his wife Kelly Baldwin and their two sons; his daughter Leah M. Smith and her husband Brad Smith and their son.
Visitation will be December 1, 2005 at Timothy Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be December 2, 2005 at the church. He will be laid to rest with military honors in "Jackson County Veterans Field of Honor" at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley, MO. Arrangements by Chapel of Memories Funeral Home.
