The Holton Recorder, February 12, 1920:
Mayetta Department. The sad news reached Mayetta Saturday, February 7, of the death of P. S. Elliott of Kansas City. He was known to his old acquaintances as "Sherd." Sherd was the youngest son of the late Stephan Elliott, one of the oldest pioneers of the county, coming here in an early day, when country was nothing but a wilderness. He has been here off and on the past few years, looking after the interest of his farm, and also building his health. While here he made his home in the City Hotel......Phillip Sheridan Elliott was born in Cedar Township, Jackson county, Kansas, April 20, 1870. He spent his entire early life in this community, going to school at the Dutt school and later the old South Cedar school...known as one of the best debaters in the county. After finishing the common school branches he entered Washburn College, later graduating with high honors from there. He later entered the State University, graduating from the law department. While there he took the state prize in oratory, representing the university....laid to rest in the family lot in the Holton Cemetery. He leaves to mourn his death a wife and three brothers, Dr. Frank Elliott of Kansas City, Mo., and George and Sherman of Mayetta.
