Walter was born April 14, 1929 to Andrew and Elizabeth (Shultz) Andel at Sunnyside Township near Everdell, MN. As a young child he grew up on the family farm near Everdell until the family moved to Breckenridge, MN in 1943. He attended school in Breckenridge.

Walter was united in marriage to Claudia Mae Ellsworth on August 16, 1949. The couple made their home in Breckenridge where they raised a loving family of three daughters and three sons. Walter worked for several businesses throughout the years including Twin City Creamery, Hopperts Plumbing, Noyes Construction of Fargo, Wil-Rich, and the Richland and Wilkin County Courthouses.

Walter loved sports. He participated in the Old Pro Softball League for over sixteen years. He attended the sporting events of his children and grandchildren whenever possible. He was a true and faithful follower of the Breckenridge Cowboys.

Walter passed away on Mar 29, 1999 with interment in Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton, ND.

At the time of death he was survived by his wife, six children, thirteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, three brothers and 6 sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Andrew Jr., Frank, Gilbert, Fred Jr. and a sister Ester
