John married Doris Anderson in Wichita, Kansas, on August 26, 1955. The couple eventually became parents of two sons, John Dee Elliot and Stephen James Elliot and three daughters, Cheryl Lynn (Elliot) Harts, Sharon Kay (Elliot) Bailey and Sandra Sue (Elliot) Slocum, all of whom survive him as does his wife Doris. He is also survived by two sisters; Rosalyn Johnsen of Spring, Texas and Dee Ann Tucker of Olathe, Kansas; 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
John was General Manager for Dale Electronics in Tempe, Arizona and later became Sales Manager for Dale Electronics in Yankton, South Dakota. After retiring in 1992, John and Doris settled in Carthage, Missouri, to enjoy their well earned retirement. The couple became members of the First Church of the Nazarene in Carthage.
John passed away at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, Missouri, on December 14, 2014. Memorial services for John were held at the First Church of the Nazarene on December 18, 2014. Ministers officiating were his nephew, Mark Kerr, and his son-in-law, Russell Slocum. A private family inurnment is planned for a later date.
