Millie, was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa. She traveled across our country and had an adventuresome spirit.
When World War II, came she enlisted in the Women's Army Corps, becoming a Sergeant. She served overseas in England, she was secretary to Colonel Campbell. She survived many bombings from the German "Buzz Bombs" Millie was transferred to Paris, and was on the Champs Elysees when the end of the war was announced by the French.She extended her service another six months to help with the post war operations in Germany.
Millie, has received many honors. "Woman of the Year" (2001).WACVA. "Wall of Liberty" Battle of Normandy Foundation and the WIMSA Memorial, at Arlington, VA.
She received the high honor of being awarded the Bronze Star. Her Bronze Star, Military uniform and account of her war experiences were sent to Iowa to be put on display at the WAC Museum, at Fort Des Moines, Iowa.
Mildred Monteith married Palmer Rear in 1969. He had two children, Dayton and Carolyn.
She is survived by Carolyn Bourdeau, and husband Earl. Niece, Judy Larson and Bill, who live in Arizona. Two nephews in Iowa, seven grandchildren, and
eight great-grandchildren and her dear caregiver, Cassaundra Price.
Full military honors were given on May 12th,2006, at the Greenwood Cemetery Veterans' Monument.
