Rella Abell Armstrong was the daughter of Melville Barnett Abell (1839-1897) and Annabel Chapman Abell, nee Young (1845-1935).
Rella married playwright Paul Armstrong (1869-1915) in London, England on July 24, 1899.
They were the parents of three daughters, Myrell (1901-1977), Elizabeth (1903-?), and Anabel (1905-1994).
Rella and Paul were divorced in December, 1913.
During her lifetime, Rella at various times listed her occupation as authoress and "playwrite".
Rella died in Marin County, California and was cremated at Woodlawn Cemetery, San Mateo, CA, on August 1, 1950. Her cremains were then removed to Halsted & Company Funeral Home in San Francisco. Halsted & Company records indicate that Rella's cremains were given to a daughter for burial in St. John's cemetery in Annapolis, MD. No St. John's cemetery could be found in Annapolis. An Annapolis funeral director with many years of experience was then consulted and confirmed that he knew of no St. John's cemetery in the area. The location of Rella's cremains therefore remains unknown.
