Philippe Barrès was a French journalist and the son of Maurice Barrès. He fought in World War I, and was a member in the late 1920s of the short-lived French Fascist party "le Faisceau". He fled to the United States following the German invasion of France in World War II, and wrote for French language journals. His son Claude Barrès remained in France and became a hero fighting with the Free French Forces of the resistance movement. Phillipe returned to France following the war and represented the Rally of the French People (RPF) from 1951 to 1955 in the National Assembly.
