Entered service, April 3, 1918, from New York City. Assigned to Company B, 105th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division. After training at Camp Wadsworth, SC, the 105th Machine Gun Battalion deployed to Europe, on May 17, 1918, aboard the USS Calomares, from Newport News, VA. He saw combat in both Belgium & France. Returning from France , March 6, 1919, from Brest, France, aboard the USS Leviathan, docking at Hoboken , NJ. He marched in the great " Welcome Home Parade " for the 27th Division, up 5th Avenue, in New York City, March 25, 1919. Discharged from the service, April 1, 1919, at Camp Upton, NY.
