Bob was born on Feb 9, 1931 in Petersburg, ND to
Charles and Bertha Ouradnik, the eighth of nine children. The family later moved to Larimore where he graduated from Larimore High School in 1948. He earned his M. Div from Drew Theological Seminary in 1956. Bob served in a variety of ministry settings primarily campus ministry at the NDSC, Fargo, ND and the University of Minnesota. In 1965, the family lived at the Ecumenical Institute in one of Chicago's inner city neighborhoods, while Bob trained to lead Institute work in Minneapolis He co-founded New Communities, Inc. and lived communally at The Castle Community in Minneapolis. He also trained as a Rolfer and received a masters' degree in psychology. He traveled extensively in Europe and throughout the world, studying indigenous spirituality. In 1986 he moved to Winston-Salem helping to direct a conference center. While there he met Lou Icief and they were married on June 11, 2000.

During the last eleven years Bob worked tirelessly nurturing he land around their home, Sylvan Pathways creating a beautiful space where people gathered for weddings, small group meetings and personal retreats. An intensely curious person, he was passionate about finding connections between seemly disparate things. This was foundational to writing about his own spiritual journey, culminating in "Growing Spiritually Without Getting Bogged Down in Religion", published in 2009. Aware that his understanding of transformative spiritual experiences was continually growing, Bob began planning to revise the book, as well as create a blog for continuing the discussions. Bob's warm and loving heart was accepting of the beliefs and philosophies if diverse peoples; through his connections, travels, work and play he gathered many into his immediate and extended family.

Bob passed away peacefully on Oct 8, 2011. A memorial service was held at First Friends Meeting Fellowship Hall, Greensboro, NC. At time of death he was survived by his wife, two sons, tow daughters, three grandchildren and one stepson.
