Titusville Herald, January 16, 1922:
Ruhama Hays August, wife of J.C. August, passed away at the family home at the Diamond last evening at 7:15 o'clock, following an illness dating from last summer. While all that medical science could do was provided, it did not avail, and Mrs. August gradually declined in health until the end came peacefully at the hour stated.

Mrs. August was a daughter of the late Samuel and Harriet Hays of Sunville, Venango county, and was born there on July 16, 1852. After completing the courses prescribed by the common schools, Mrs. August finished her education in the Sunville academy, at that time at its best. She was a teacher in the public schools of Crawford and Venango counties for nine years, and on March 20, 1884 was united in marriage with Mr. August of the Diamond, who survives her.

The first year of their married life was passed on the Grove farm in Plum township and then they moved to the farm north of Titusville now owned by Hon. J.C. McKinney, where they resided for sixteen years. In January 1901, Mr. and Mrs. August returned to their own farm near the Diamond where they remained until April 1920 when they moved to the present home at the Diamond.

To Mr. and Mrs. August were born the following children: Floyd B. August, who resides in Titusville, Glenn, who died at the age of twenty-one months, Mrs. Ethel Green, who passed away in May 1918, and Ivo S. August of the Diamond. There are also three sisters, Mrs. Daniel Bower of Denver, Col., Mrs. J.M. Haslet of North Washington, Butler county, and Mrs. Laura Shriver of the Diamond, now in Nappa, Cal. There are four grandchildren.

As a young lady Mrs. August became a member of the Sunville Presbyterian church but after her marriage she affiliated with the Diamond United Brethren church. When the family moved to the farm north of Titusville, Mrs. August transferred her church membership to the Thompson Creek U.B. church but transferred back to Diamond again when returning to that community. She was also a charter member both of Diamond Grange and the Venango county Pomona Grange, and had held many of the important offices in the subordinate grange. She was an earnest Christian lady, a loving wife and a kind mother whose loss will be greatly mourned by the family and a large circle of friends.

Funeral services in her memory will be conducted from the Diamond U.B. church Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 1:30 p.m., and the interment will be made in the Diamond cemetery.
