Darragh Albert Shelby Vaught was one of the children born to Daniel Worthington Vaught and his wife Mary Frances Darrah. Darragh was employed as a cotton broker during his work life. Darragh wrote a letter on May 8, 1894 to Prof. John Rose Ficklen (a history professor at Tulane University, who authored "History of Reconstruction in Louisiana through 1868) outlining details of the origin of and activities of a group know as the "White League", which was a military organization whose purpose was the defense of the people of Louisiana from the depredations of the Republicans during the reconstruction phase of the United States.

Darragh was united in marriage on December 23, 1881 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Mary Aiken Bayne. Darragh and Mary were blessed with the birth of at least three children during their marriage:
