Edith was born in Providence, the daughter of George and Ella Searle. She married Donald Hope Allen in Providence on June 30, 1918. After her husband was released from the Navy following WWI, they settled in Providence. They were the parents of 4 children, Donald Hope Allen Jr. 1919- 1991
