Janet (Magadanz) Diestler, age 95, Hortonville, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2015, at ThedaCare Medical Center, New London following a short illness. She was born in the Town of Maine on July 2, 1920, daughter of Samuel and Nettie (Fields) Strong. She moved to Hortonville to work as a nanny where she met and married Gerhardt (Pat) Magadanz in 1940. After his death in 1956, she married Robert Diestler in 1966. He preceded her in death in 1993. Janet worked at many places, starting from when she was a young girl working with her dad on the milk route, planting cabbage in the fields around Shiocton; she also worked at Zwickers Knitting Mill, Hortonville Manufacturing Co. and the Canning Factory. Janet spent many years taking care of loved ones; she loved cooking, baking, gardening and berry picking. She had a great love of dancing and polka music and was well known for her Polish Hop.Janet is survived by 3 children: Gerhardt (Gary) Magadanz, New London; Nyal (Karen) Magadanz, Hortonville; Ann Magadanz, Weyauwega; 4 grandchildren: Paul(Bridget) Magadanz, Mark (Heather) Magadanz, Lisa (Tom) Wege and Kari (Rusty) Holm; 7 great-grandchildren: Corissa Wege, Alexis, Andrew and Adin Magadanz; Alyssa and Ben Magadanz and Grace Holm. She is further survived by her sisters, Joan (James) Ponto and Janice Ziesemer and also other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, 2 sisters Jacqueline Bessette and Joyce Strong and a brother Merton Strong.Funeral services for Janet will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Hortonville with Rev. Joel Jenswold officiating. Burial will be in the Hortonville Union Cemetery.
