Son of Robert and Lura (Wildman) Hickman and husband of Dorthy M. (Pfeaster) Hickman, whom he married on February 24, 1945. He joined the US Army in September 1944, one of six brothers who served during World War II, and was stationed at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Following the war, he moved to Belleville, Illinois where his wife and her family had moved, where he owned and operated the Derby Gas Station and also worked as an upholsterer at the Belleville Casket Factory, as well as a school bus driver, and a school crossing guard. He later became an ordained minister. He is survived by a son, two daughters, 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, three sisters, and two brothers.
