Enlisted, April 9, 1894, in Company K, NY 23rd NY Infantry Regiment, NYNG, Brooklyn, NY ( served in Company K during the Spanish American War era ). Dec. 18, 1899 transferred to Company G, 23rd NY Infantry Regiment, to Nov. 13, 1905. Enlisted April 3, 1906, in Company G, 23rd NY Infantry Regiment, to Feb. 20, 1907. Enlisted, March 9, 1907, in Troop 5, Squadron C Cavalry, Brooklyn, NY, which becomes Troop A, 2nd NY Cavalry, to March 3, 1913. Taken up with Troop A, 2nd NY Cavalry which becomes Troop A, 1st NY Cavalry Regiment. He served with Troop A, 1st NY Cavalry on the Mexican border, June 30,1916 - March 20, 1917.

One week after being mustered out of border service, the 1st Squadron, 1st NY Cavalry was called up again to guard the New York City Aqueduct system. Troop A was part of the 1st Squadron and remained guarding the Aqueduct system till after the war was declared .

The 1st NY Cavalry Regiment reorganized for the World War as the 104th & 105th Machine Gun Battalions, 27th Division. He was assigned to Company A, 104th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division. Company A was transferred and designated Company D, 105th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division. After training at Camp Wadsworth, SC, the 105th Machine Gun Battalion deployed the Europe, on May 18, 1918, aboard the USS Calomares. Docking at St. Nazaire, France, May 30, 1918. He saw combat in Belgium & France. Returning to the States, March 6, 1919, aboard the USS Leviathan, docking at Hoboken , NJ. He marched in the great " Welcome Home Parade " for the 27th Division, up 5th Avenue, in New York City, on March 25, 1919. Discharged from the service, April 1, 1919, at Camp Upton, NY.
