OBITUARY
It is with a feeling of deep regret we announce the death of Edward J. Doyle of Larkin, which occurred at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. P.E. McFaddin, of near Whiting, on April 21st at 4 o'clock p.m. Deceased was born in Franklin county, Pa., Aug. 2nd, 1822; married Mary White in 1855; moved to Doniphan in the same year; one child born by first wife, Barney, now living in Wachita Nation; eight years later, 1863, he married Mary McCoy; one child by second wife, Mrs. P.E. McFaddin, now living near Whiting, Kansas; married to Mary Barlow in December 1865; three children by last wife, Edward, Nancy Jane and John, now living near Larkin.
Mr. Doyle was taken sick on his way to attend the wedding of his son, John, notice of which was given in the Sunflower. The attack was not considered dangerous in the least degree until about three days before he died; it was then too late for Barney and Edward to reach his bedside, Edward is in Oklahoma City, O. T.
Everything that medical aid and human assistance could devise was done to make his last moments as comfortable as possible.
The deceased was well known in Jackson, Atchison, and Doniphan counties as a good, kind, and charitable man and his funeral, notwithstanding the busy season, spring work being in full blast, was the largest we have seen for years which showed how deeply and deservedly regretted his death was.
Along the road the funeral procession was met at different points by a large concourse of people and when it reached Effingham there must have been at least forty buggies and carriages. He was buried in St. Ann's cemetery, Effingham, Atchison county. The family have the sympathy of the entire neighborhood.
Hushed are his children's joyful calls today,
For one they loved has passed away
From out his earthly house of clay;
No more they'll hear his footsteps fall
At early morn within the hall,
In mild reproof or loving praise.
His wife and sons are miles apart;
God spare them from a broken heart,
For peacefully he passed away,
Nor had desire to longer stay.
His aged wife and children dear bend today
O'er his lifeless form of clay.
God keep the children was his prayer,
His epitaph may be written thus:
A faithful friend, a husband dear,
A tender parent lieth here.
Great is the loss we now sustain,
But hope in Heaven to meet again.
