Leone was first born American on both sides of her parents. As the youngest, her older siblings lovingly called her "Babe", and they continued to call her that throughout her life. When I was a little girl and first heard them still refer to her as "Babe", well I was delighted. I think she pretended not to like that because she usually preferred to be called "Lee" and it suited her well.

She was married and divorced three times:
Stanley Dennis Comer 1946-1954
Arthur Markham Rambo 1955-1962
Donald Partin 1971-1973

I struggle with which name to list her by, however, she had married Donald Partin, in 1971, but they were married but two years before divorcing.

Mom married my father, Stan, on Friday the 13th of September, 1946 and they had 4 children by 1953. Brother Pat was born in 1948. They had lost their second child at birth in a very tragic manner in 1950. Dad named him after his own father, James Crawford Comer. I came along in 1951, and Kevin in 1953. Mom was not made from the same mold "du jour" for modern American women of the times as dictated by mid-century society. She needed more stimulation as she had always wanted to attend college and travel. They divorced about 1955. Soon, she married Art, and although she lived a more exciting life, this did prove to be problematic. They were married for about 7 years until 1962.

While married to Art, she got a job learning the travel industry at Trans Globe Travel Agency, in Costa Mesa, California. She really loved it and I suppose it gave her a sense of joy and pride. It was something that belonged to her and she was good at it partly because of her gregarious nature. She loved to bowl, play cards and tell wild stories. She was not crafty with her hands but she did very well in journalism, which she studied in high school. She attended Sacred Heart at West Seattle High, in King County, where she was born and raised. She graduated there in 1945.

When she divorced her second husband, it was just the three of us, Mom, Kevin and I living together. In the mid 1960's, she joined the B.P.W., which stands for Business and Professional Women's Club. She was one of only a few who offered to entertain guests by dancing to the Alley Cat song and wearing black tights with a bright pink tail and ears! I was there and watched her do this. She opened her own travel business with a partner called Westcliff Travel in Newport Beach. She had many opportunities to travel to exotic places but her most interesting was Yugoslavia, during the 1970's. She enjoyed every place she ever went, with the exception of the middle east because of the atrocities placed toward women. She was adamant about the mistreatment of women; that's one thing she taught me and with fire in her when she spoke of these things.

Finally, it was during her middle years that her first dream came true when she started college. It took her years to complete her educators degree by attending night school. She graduated from Long Beach State during the 1980's. Her passion remained though in the travel category.

She developed diabetes. Her other greatest accomplishment was celebrating 18 years of sobriety at the time of her death. And I say this because she would speak freely of her experiences hoping she could offer something to help others. I know she was very proud of this and I was too and I happened to tell her that just prior to her sudden death. The timing was rather uncanny, but I learned in my own time, that alcoholic's don't drink because they love the taste of alcohol; they drink because alcohol helps them cope with stress and pain from something "within". She was her father's only child and I know there was a great deal of sadness over this relationship as she struggled to win his love till the day he died.

She died far too young at 63 years. She tended to be frugal and since she loved to cruise, she arranged to be cremated and have her ashes flown over the Pacific Ocean by plane to Catalina...a favorite family get-away. That's how I like to think of her, cruisin' the wild seas as she loved it so very much.

She left behind 6 grandchildren, 4 of whom she never met. Arrangements were made to meet Kevin's children the very week that she died, however, she died on the Thursday before the scheduled Saturday.

Grandchildren:
