Otis Welton DeLawder, fun-loving dancer, big hugger, useless gadget guy and retired farmer, with a sweet tooth to rival any child, died Tuesday, October 13, 2015, peacefully in his Broadway, Virginia home.

He leaves behind a wife, Sandy DeLawder, his partner in appointment TV viewing.

Pulling himself up from meager beginnings took grit, but navigating three girls through high school all at once without ever raising his voice may be one of his life's greatest achievements.

He was preceded in death by father, Roy Franklin DeLawder, mother, Lena Catherine Gochenour DeLawder , stepmother, Telma Mae Dispanet Delawder, and three siblings. Surviving are eight brothers and five sisters.

There will be no immediate funeral but rather a "Celebration of Life" ceremony in mid-December.

A full obituary was published in the Daily News-Record on Thursday, October 15, 2015.
