Gerald (Jerry) was born on May 9th, 1934, in Quincy, the third and youngest son of Anthony and Florine A. (Niehaus) Koetters. He married Joan E. Heckenkamp on June 11th, 1960 in St. Frances Church, Quincy.
Gerald attended St. Francis Grade School and was a 1952 graduate of Notre Dame High School. Prior to his marriage, he was in the United States Navy from 1954 until 1956. He was stationed in Brunswick, Georgia at the U. S. Naval Airship Training Unit before he came back to settle in Quincy.
Upon returning from the Navy, he worked at Heintz Electric Company from 1955 until his retirement in 1999. He covered a variety of roles for the company, from the front counter to assisting local contractors with their needs from the warehouse.
Jerry was an active member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church participating as an usher for Sunday Mass for many years. He also supported the Knights of Columbus. He loved to play golf, follow Notre Dame University football, and the St. Louis Cardinals. He and his wife, Joan, liked to travel with friends for golf outings and to far-flung family events.
Jerry was a wonderful husband, brother, son, uncle and friend. Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, his parents, Anthony and Florine, and his brothers, Virgil (Cotton) and Eugene (Gene), all of Quincy.
SERVICES: Mass of Christian Burial, Friday, November 6th, at 11:00 AM the Church of St. Peter, with Fr. Leo Enlow officiating.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Luncheon to follow at St. Peter’s.
