"Louis" enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1857. He entered as a Private and left as a Corporal.
He married Alice Gray on August 26, 1869 in Brenham, Washington County, Texas using his name as "Lewis" Dirr.
Mr. Dirr was enlisted as part of Edgars Artillery in 1861 until April 1865 and never transferred out of Edgars Light Artillery Company.
His wife, Alice, died in Canadian, Texas at her daughters home on June 3, 1919 and is buried there. Mr. Lewis (Louis) Dirr was the first tax assessor of Hemphill County according to The Canadian Record, issued on June 12, 1919.
