MAXINE A. HEJLIK ABBAS
(1921-1997)
Maxine A. "Hejlik" Abbas, 75, of 317 E. Washington, died Tuesday, (Jan. 14, 1997) at her home.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Steve Meyer officiating. Inurnment will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery. There is no visitation planned. Fullerton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Maxine was born on Feb. 13, 1921, in Garner, the daughter of William F. and Rose Ann "Bothovia" Hejlik.
She was a correspondent for the Globe-Gazette and completed her first assignment in 1939 while in junior high. She graduated from Rockwell High School in 1940 and went to work for the Clerk of Court in Mason City. She rejoined her family produce business in Rockwell in 1942. She was active in the Hejlik and Abbas Produce Company until her retirement in 1994.
She also drove a school bus for 10 years for the Rockwell School System.
She was united in marriage to Edward Abbas on Aug. 16, 1952, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a former member of the Women of the Moose in Mason City. She enjoyed cooking, reading and visiting friends.
Maxine is survived by her brother, William and his wife, Recca Hejlik, Sheffield; her niece, Becky and her husband, John Carstens, Burchinal; her three nephews, Brick W. Hejlik and his wife, Janelle, Sheffield, Steve A. Hejlik, Sheffield, and Craig R. Hejlik and his wife LuAnn, Rockwell.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 11, 1976; her mother in 1974; and her father in 1977.
