Marcelina M. Sanchez, age 92, of Grandview, WA passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 in Sunnyside, WA. Marcelina was born on June 12, 1923 in Mercedes, Texas the daughter of Pedro and Juanita (Morales) Mata. On January 14, 1939 she met and married Alejandro Sanchez in Weslaco, Texas. They migrated to Washington State in 1946 and made their home in Grandview, WA. Marcelina worked as a farm laborer from 1946 until she retired in 1985. Marcelina was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and sister. She was a strong independent woman. Marcelina was a woman of perfection always striving to have everything cleaned. That perfection showed in her yard and flowers, there was never a day that we would show up and she wasn’t working hard in her yard. Marcelina worked very hard to help provide for her family. During her last days she thrived, caring for her little dog Chiquita.

Marcelina is survived by one son, Alejandro Sanchez Jr. of Grandview, WA. Two daughters, Anna Sanchez (Jose Martinez) of Grandview, WA and Alicia Sanchez Nash of Yakima, WA. She is also survived by two grandsons that she raised Israel Plata (Nelda) Sanchez, Juan Sanchez (Hermina Barrara), numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, great great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, one sister, Lupe Loera of Mexico and two brothers Juan Loera and Crispin both of Weslaco, TX. She is preceded in death by her husband Alejandro Sanchez, parents Pedro and Juanita (Morales) Mata, step-father, Hermenejildo Mata, two sons Ruben and Francisco Sanchez, one grandson Raul Sanchez, three sisters Locha M. Jasso, Enedina Mansanales, Irene M. Gomez, two brothers Uvaldo and Selso Loera.

Viewing and visitation will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2016 from 2:00 to 8:00 pm with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home in Grandview, WA. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grandview, WA. Burial will follow at the Grandview Cemetery.
