Margaret Mitchell, Daughter of Alexander and Grace Dorning Mitchell, both of Scotland, was born across the border of Pennsylvania in New York state.

In the 1880 census of Caldonia, Jay Township of Elk county P.A. we find Margaret age 7
with her sisters, Elizabeth 4, and Mary 1 and her mother age 30, widowed.

On September 19, 1891, Margaret married Ellis Greenalch a miner, In Weedville, Elk County, PA. at the age of 18. To this couple, 15 children were born, 7 making it to adulthood.
Margaret died at age 38, giving birth to the last baby, leaving behind 7 children, 6 of whom were underage all the way to 3 years old. This tragedy of life was never forgotten by her children, and they mourned their mother till their last days.

Margaret's marker reads a birth date of 1871 and a death date of 1911. These years are incorrect. It is believed her children put up this marker after they had reached adulthood.
109 years after Margaret's death, we are still saddened by her death and a life cut short, and for the children left without their mother.
