Gary Brownfield, 83, of St. Joseph died at 3:49 p.m. Thursday (March 31, 2016) in Champaign.
He was born on June 6, 1932 in Urbana, a son of Newton Clifford Brownfield and Beulah Beatrice Wells Brownfield.
He married Janet (Bessie) Franklin on April 26, 1966, in Urbana. She preceded him in death on Aug. 20, 1997. Also preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Tony Brownfield; a son-in-law, Lee Darling and two brothers, Jr. and Donald Brownfield.
He is survived by two daughters, Kathy Darling and Glenda (Bill) Schmidt; two sisters, Mary Ebert and Shirley Severens; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Brownfield was a graduate of Urbana High School with the Class of 1950.
He was a sheet metal worker for 29 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of Local 218. He was a resident of St. Joseph for 49 years.
