Betty was a resident of Hutchinson since 1954. She retired as secretary from North Reno School in 1995. Betty was a life member of the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68, the American Legion Women's Auxiliary Unit #68, and New Covenant Presbyterian Church.
On Jan. 30, 1954, she married Eugene G. Haas in Hernando, Miss. They shared 62 years of marriage. He survives.
Other survivors include: son, Richard G. Haas of Arkansas City; daughters, Elizabeth Haas of Salina, and Vivan Shamblin of Wichita; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; brother, Charlie Keen; and sister, Vivan Eaton.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2016, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Chaplain Amy Klaassen officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with military honors conducted by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. The casket will be closed. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, with the family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, New Covenant Presbyterian Church, American Kidney Association or Hospice of Reno County, all in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
