Dale Kenneth Smith, 84, died May 5, 2016, at the Hospice House, Hutchinson. Dale was born July 3, 1931, in Norwich, to Walter and Fern (Clothier) Smith and was one of 10 children.

After graduating from high school, Dale enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Korean War. At the age of 21, Dale was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart for his bravery and service to his country. He was honorably discharged in 1953.

Dale married Phyllis Gegan in 1955. Of this union five sons were born, Mike, Rod, Fred, Jim and Kenny.

In May of 1973, Dale married Marlene (Ullom) Smith and Dale gained three daughters, Shawna, Robin, Kelly and a son, Troy. They resided in Nickerson when they welcomed their first son, Dalynn.

Dale was the owner/operator of Kansas Live Bait. He also worked for Boeing and International Homes. Dale enjoyed working at “The Farm,” fishing and playing pool. Dale was quite the handyman. He was able to fix and build many projects for family and friends. In Dale’s spare time you could find him putting together jigsaw puzzles.

Dale is survived by his wife, Marlene; sister, Imajean Voth; brother, Max Smith; six sons, Dalynn Smith and wife Michelle, Mike Smith and wife Theresa, Rod Smith and wife Pam, Fred Smith and wife Sonya, Jim Smith, Kenny Smith and wife Jani; a stepson, Troy Ullom and wife Deb; three stepdaughters, Shawna Watkins and husband Don, Robin Self and husband Stan, Kelly Deviney; 24 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and a great great-grandchild.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Fern; four brothers, Glen, Art, Claude and Clyde; and three sisters Pauline, Lorene and Bonnie.

Graveside Service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2016, at Wildmead Cemetery, Nickerson, with Paul Duskin officiating. Graveside Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard.
