Jacob D. Venton, aged 88, passed away at Rossie, March 25. He died Sunday night at 11:30 at the home of his son, William, at the Grace Mullin farm in Rossie. Mr. Venton was born at Frederickburg, Canada, May 12, 1839, son of George Hezekiah and Sarah Osterhouse Venton. When a young man he came to the States and in 1868 married Orilla Washburn of Macomb who passed away 16 years ago. Most of his life was passed in Macomb and North Gouverneur, coming here May 1, 1927. Eight children were born to them. Two died in infancy and James W. died 14 years ago. Their survivors are five children, William M. of Rossie, George H. of North Gouverneur, Mrs. Orie Rourke of Natural Bridge, Mrs. Fred Becker of Fowler, Mrs. John Culberson of Theresa. Seventeen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren survive. The funeral was held Wednesday at 11 at the home of his son, William Venton. His body was placed in the vault at Gouverneur for burial in the spring at North Gouverneur. Rev. Mr. Campbell, pastor of the Presbyterian Church officiated.
