Petter married Cecilia Margrethe of the Berre farm on November 3, 1862 in Namdalseidel. They had four children Peter Magnus, Martin Adolf, Telise Karoline and Peder Andreas. (It is possible that Peter Magnus is not Petter's son, I do not have a year of birth for him. Cecilia was quite a few years older than Petter.)
After Cecilia's death in 1885 Petter married Nikoline Olsdatter of the Tinglum farm. They had eleven children Signe Marie, Magnhild Kristine, Olaf Matheus, Nils Peter, Jenny Kristine, Tora, Karen, Astrid Johanne, Ivar Olai, Gudrun and Torleif.
Petter supported his large family by working as a logger and farmer; some of his sons followed his footsteps into the forest. His religious affiliation was Lutheran.
