FORT KENT - Bernard J. Charette, 86, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Fort Kent on March 27, 1933, son of the late Lionel and Ernestine (Gagnon) Charette.
Bernard is survived by his five daughters: Bernice Lithgow and her husband Craig of Machias, Janice Clark and her husband Ronald of Belfast, Susan Bouchard and her husband Don of Soldier Pond, Norma Charette of Belfast, and Gloria and her husband Jeff Makino of Illinois; six grandchildren, Benjamin Lithgow, Robin Phipps [husband, Clint], Emma Clark, Bradley Bouchard [fiancée Jenna Lynds], Eric and Joshua Pelletier; and two wonderful great grandchildren, Jazmine Bouchard and Lewie Phipps; four siblings, Jackie Bouchard of Oakland, Clarence Charette and his wife Gladys, Phyllis Charette, and Gerald and his wife Peggy all of Fort Kent; two special family members, Michael Pelletier and Steve Gagnon; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Rinette Charette; and four siblings, Richard, James, Maxine and Claude Charette.
Bernard was a humble man with a kind and gentle soul and devoted his life to his wife, children and strong faith. Many will miss his beautiful smile, kindhearted words, and genuine "I love you". We were blessed to have him in our lives. Bernard served his country as a Corporal in the US Army 2nd Battalion Armed Calvary and dedicated most of his career [35-years] working for the St. Louis Parish in Fort Kent.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 27, 2019 at the St. Louis Church in Fort Kent. Burial will follow in the Saint Louis Catholic Cemetery. Family and Friends may call at Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home from 8:00 a.m. - 9:45 a.m., the morning of the service.
