Marjorie June Rumery Smith left this earth to sing with a choir of angels on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016. June was born in Columbus, KS, on Aug. 14, 1923 to parents Clarence and Grace Rumery. She spent most of her school years in Baxter Springs, KS. After high school, she trained as a legal secretary and later met and married Artie Manford Smith on Feb. 27, 1948. June worked for the city of Columbia, MO, as a legal secretary to the city counselor and later for the City Prosecutor until her retirement when she moved to Texas. She also directed the choir and the Wilkes Blvd. Methodist Church for many years. She is survived by five children: Grace and Gary River of Montgomery City, MO; Sam and Viola Smith of Columbia, MO; Don Smith of Oklahoma City, OK; Marjorie Malek-Ahmadi of Lubbock, TX, and Rosmary and Alan Davis of Minneapolis, MN. June's 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren are scattered about the Midwest and south. Graveside services will be held in her honor at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at the Columbia Cemetery at 32 W. Broadway, Columbia, Boone Co., MO.
