He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and fought in the battles of Heartbreak Ridge and Bloody Ridge. He was awarded a Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star and a UN Service Medal for his service. He was a dairy farmer all his life, working on the family farm in Dunbar.
Surviving are a brother, David Niven; a sister, Dorothy (Niven) Zovnic; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews .
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gordon (Wilma) Niven and Hugh (Edna) Niven; a sister, Marjorie (Francis) Nerbun; a brother-in-law, Stephen Zovnic and a sister-in-law, Alice (Bryant) Niven.
A military service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Dunbar Cemetery. Jacobs Funeral Home, Niagara Chapel, is serving the family
