American Actress. Born Gloria Suie Chin, she was a character actress in the 1940s and '50s who later went on to become a successful restaurateur. At age 21, while visiting her sister in California, she was spotted in the canteen at Paramount Studios by writer/producer Jay Richard Kennedy, who asked her to audition for an upcoming film, 'Singapore' (1947), in which she was cast with Ava Gardner and Fred MacMurray. Adopting the screen name "Maylia," she signed a contract with Columbia Pictures and went on to appear in several films, including 'To the Ends of the Earth' (1948), 'Boston Blackie's Chinese Venture' (1949), 'Chinatown at Midnight' (1949), 'Call Me Mister' (1951) and 'Return to Paradise' (1953). She married actor Benson Fong and sacrificed her acting career to start what would become a family of 5 children. The couple would later go on to run a successful chain of Ah Fong's Restaurants in the Los Angeles area until Benson's death in 1987. She died of natural causes.
