Conner Anhalt Obituary
Conner Louis Anhalt, born January 8, 1998, was a blessing to his family and to everyone he touched during his life. While Conner was dealt the challenge of living life with Hunter Syndrome, in every sense, Conner was a precious gift, a celebration of life. Conner is and was everything that is sweet, everything that is kind, everything that is good. In his short life, Conner left a legacy that has indelibly impacted each and every person he touched - with his smile, his courage, his humor, his sense of style with his hats and costumes, but mostly with his gentle being and his genuine warmth.
Yet, even with the kindest soul imaginable, Conner had an unbreakable will. He didn't have a choice - he battled through challenge after challenge with his disease, never giving up his will to be at the center of any family event no matter how big or small. Conner in many ways was a miracle - defying doctors and medicine - and far outliving the years he was expected to live. But that was Conner - someone who not only fed off the love of his family and caregivers, but who gave so much more in return.
After Thanksgiving weekend with family together, on December 1, 2013, Conner passed away much the same way he entered the world - surrounded by the unconditional and unwavering love and support of his family. No little boy could have been loved more than Conner. His parents, Cynthia and Randy Anhalt, and his incredibly loving sister, Jamie, lived every day for Conner - caring for him, being with him, doing for him, whatever they could so he could be part of their everything. Their love, no doubt, was what gave him the will to keep fighting and living.
But, Conner's grandparents Millie and Mel Anhalt and Sue and Jerry Deutser; his aunt Julie Deutser Barenblat and his uncle Jon Deutser; aunts and uncles Bari and Andrew Erlichson, Craig and Vicky Evans, Michelle and Steve Robeson; and cousins Allison Kalmon; Matthew and Emily Erlichson; Hayley and Reina Evans; Mackenzie, Bradley and Andrew Robeson; Brett and Josh Barenblat; and especially Lauren Deutser, Douglas Deutser; and Conner's very best friend, Blake Deutser loved and cared for "their" Conner in ways that are unexplainable. The list of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who loved and made a difference to Conner goes on and on. His brother whom he never knew, Casey Anhalt, and his loving uncle, Jimmy Deutser, preceded Conner in death.
In his life we learned that we are dealt circumstances - but Conner lived through his circumstances and taught family, friends and anyone he touched that just because someone may look different or be different, that on the inside they are an incredibly special person who deserves all the love the world can give. And, that was Conner - as special and loving a little boy that ever lived. No matter who touched Conner during his life, he impacted them far more. Because of Conner, children now go out of their way to embrace others who are different. Because of Conner, this world is a better, more loving place.
The love Conner felt extended far beyond family and friends. Conner was blessed with the care of men and women who truly define what it means to be a caregiver - Houston Hospice Butterfly Team nurses and staff, Charlie, Carrie and Jenny who were his primary hospice caregivers; as well as Dr. Nancy Glass, who has also been a part of his extraordinary care since he was 8 months old and who day after day went above and beyond to make Conner comfortable; Dr. Richard Thaller, Mrs. Thaller and the entire staff for their loving care for so many years; Dr. Robert Bloss, Dr. Bob Zeller; Dr. James Muenzer; and caregivers Sarai, Margaret and Leeja; and our incredibly special Angel Peterson, who is part of our family and has lovingly cared for Conner for the past 12 1/2 years.
The funeral will take place on Wednesday, December 4 at 4:00 pm at Congregation Beth Israel, 5600 N. Braeswood Blvd, Houston, TX 77096. There will be a celebration of Conner's life following the funeral at the Temple. Family, friends and everyone who loved Conner is welcome. There will be a private burial for family prior to the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, a gift to any of the many organizations that impacted Conner and his family would be appreciated. In particular, the MPS Society, and Houston Hospice Butterfly Team, are organizations that made a difference to Conner.
Thank you for your love and prayers. And, most of all, we are grateful that through you, and each of us, Conner's memory will live on forever.
