Martha retired from the Murfreesboro City School System where she taught sixth graders. She graduated from East Nashville High School; attended Cumberland University and Middle Tennessee State University . She was a member of the DAR, Sam Davis Association, and a charter member of the Rutherford County Historical Society. She was a lifelong member of the Baptist Church.
