FORT WORTH - Ethel Simmons Sims, 85, a retired registered nurse, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, in Fort Worth.
Memorial service: 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Cathedral.
Memorials: Alzheimer's Foundation.
Ethel Sims was born Feb. 28, 1913, in New Bedford, Mass.
She ended her courageous battle with Alzheimers, Saturday morning.
This New England beauty worked while earning her bachelor of science degree from Simmons College. She embraced her career as an outstanding nurse . . . intelligent caring and disciplined. She headed surgical recovery at Harris and St. Joseph hospitals, opened Schick Shadle in Fort Worth and headed Kents nursing staff.
As a resident Alzheimers patient at the Renaissance, she continued her desire to help others.
Ethel's understated elegance captivated the press from Parade magazine to the cover of the Palm Beach News .
Ethel survived four outstanding husbands, Gen. William H. Blanchard, Bill Dafscik, Dr. Jack Furman and Dr. Stillman Sims, professor of mathematics.
Always expecting the "best," she lived in Our Lord's faith, hope and charity. She was a loving mother.
Survivors: Son, William Blanchard and wife, Connie of Granbury; daughter, Dale Blanchard of Chicago, Ill.; grandchildren, William H. Blanchard III of Fort Worth, Dianna Blanchard of Fort Worth, Joseph D. Brown of San Diego, Calif., Noelle Flournoy of Fort Worth; and great-grandchildren, Macee Blanchard, Payton Blanchard, William Downing, Delaney Brown, Zachary Brown and Catlin Brown.
