Jean Carol Thornton (Roenicke), a resident of Lapeer, Michigan and formerly Saginaw, Michigan, passed away from natural causes at the age of 84 on the morning of Sunday, February 19th.

Jean was born in Saginaw, Michigan in 1932, the second of three children of the late Walter and Helen (Baumer) Roenicke. She attended Saginaw High School and married her beloved Curtis M. Thornton on May 5th, 1951. Jean served as the President and CEO of Saginaw County Employees Credit Union for thirty-six years before retiring in 1997. In retirement, Jean earned a degree in interior design from Saginaw Valley State University. She took a position as a designer at Feige's Interiors for several years thereafter.

In addition to being a confident businesswoman and loving mother, Jean also served on numerous county and statewide committees and boards. She enjoyed spending time with her friends at Culture Club and with her family. Jean will be remembered as a strong and independent woman with a heart of gold.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis M. Thornton. She is survived by her sister . . . ; brother . . . ; daughters . . . ; four grandchildren, . . . ; five great-grandchildren, . . . ; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will hold an entombment ceremony on May 5th at the Great Lakes National Cemetary in Holly, MI. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the American Diabetes Association.
