Dorothy Florence Hansberry was born on January 22, 1914, the second of four girls. She attended John B. Allen grade school and graduated from Lincoln High School in Seattle in 1930. She worked at Hoffs restaurant in downtown Seattle. Evenings she attended business college and adult education classes at Broadway High School. Dorothy married Harold Ross Hansberry in 1931. This union resulted in three children, 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. In 1931, Dorothy and Harold started Appliance Parts and Service Company, which later became Appliance Parts Company. They managed the company together until illness forced her retirement in 1983. Dorothy was a Girl Scout leader and was actively involved in PTA. She enjoyed camping, boating, and traveling. In retirement, she researched, compiled, and printed a history of family legends, statistics, and pictures and the logs of the trips taken on the boats she and Harold had owned. Dorothy passed away peacefully, with her family at her side, on November 1, 2015. She was 101 years old.
