He was a son of Jack and Suzanne Kohl Abbott. He graduated from Union Academy of Belleville in 1976.

He married Beverly Bulluck on 4/18/1999.

He operated the family dairy farm for many years before establishing his own crop spray business. At the time of his death, he was employed by Deer Run Dairy.

He was an avid bowler, being inducted to the USBC Adams Men’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame, having bowled two 300 games. He was a Member of the Belleville and Ellisburg fire departments, also serving as a First Responder and was a member of the 200 Club. Mike also served as a Mannsville Village of Trustee Member for many years.

He was survived by his wife; five children, Rachel (Chad) Abbott-Zehr, Shawn (Heather), Joshua (Kirstin), Erin (Justin) Wagschal, and Jenny (Daniel) Webster; three step-children, Betsy (Carl) Wood, Michael Shelmidine, and Mark (Tammy) Shelmidine; thirteen grandchildren; his mother, Suzann; five siblings, Melinda Abbott, Becky (Dan) Maas, Sandy (Ed) Dupee, Annie (Lenny Babcock) Abbott, and Joseph (Janet) Abbott.

He was pre-deceased by his father in June of 2010.
