He was a son of Bertram and Winifred Harber Abbott. He was educated at Union Academy Belleville.

He married Suzanne Kohl on 10/19/ 1956, in Ellisburg.

They owned and operated the farm from 1955 until retiring from farming in 2007. He drove school bus for Belleville Central School and the Belleville Henderson Central School systems for a total of 37 years.

He was a lifetime member and past Fire Chief of the Belleville Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid bowler, bowling at the Adams Bowling Club and South Jeff Lanes in Adams.

Surviving was his wife; four daughters, Melinda Abbott, Becky and Daniel Maas, Sandy and Ed Dupee, and Annie Abbott; two sons, Michael (Beverly) and Joseph (Janet); 16 grandchildren, many great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Howard (Nancy); and a sister, Darcy Stockwell.
