German Artist, Etcher, and Illustrator. The son of a painter, he studied art at the Munich Academy, Munich, Germany, under Wilhelm von Kobell. From 1829 until 1839 he illustrated Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's romances and ballads with marginal drawings. His best etching work is the large plate of "Dornröschen" (1839). As a painter, he ranked high with his "The Pastor's Daughter of Taubenhain," which now hangs at Neue Pinakothek Museum in Munich, Germany. He died at the age of 76.
