Serjeant (sn: 217), H Company, 1/4th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. He was wounded on 11 March 1915 at the Battle of Neuve Chapelle in France but died later of his injuries in the Military Hospital, Ashton-under-Lyme, England. His war diary has been lodged with the Suffolk Records Office, Bury St Edmunds.

Although he is buried in this churchyard he has an official Alternative Commemoration headstone in Old Ipswich Cemetery.

A former employee of Richard Garrett and Sons Engineering Works, Leiston. Husband of Emma (née Buck) Bridges. Son of John Bridges (domestic gardener) and Mary Alice (née Backhouse) Bridges.
