Statesman, Prime Minister of Iran. A member of Iran's Revival Party, he served as prime minister on three separate occasions. First, from 1 November 1925 to 13 June 1926; second, from 18 September 1933 to 3 December 1935 and lastly, from 27 August 1941 to 9 March 1942. Prior to becoming prime minister he studied at the élite Dar ul-Funun in Tehran. He then became the dean of Tehran School of Political Science. In 1909, he entered politics as a member of Parliament where he served until 1921. While there he served as speaker in 1912. He served as Minister of Justice from 3 June 1913 to 6 December 1914. He held the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs twice and between 1913 and 1925 he would serve as Iran's Minister of Finance four times. He is best remembered for his role in having Mohammad Reza Pahlavi proclaimed as king after his father, Reza Shah, was forced to abdicate 16 September 1941 and exiled by the allied forces of the United Kingdom and the Soviet Union during World War II. He is also remembered as a noted poet and author. After leaving as prime minister, he was appointed Minister of Court and then named ambassador of Iran to the United States of America, but he died before he could assume the post.
