He was born Nov. 2, 1943 in Delaware County. He was a Navy Veteran who served during the Vietnam era and was retired from Cline Electric in Columbus. John enjoyed golfing, fishing and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Connie Ahle Montgomery of Glouster; a son, John Christopher (Monica DeSantis) Montgomery of Columbus; a daughter, Shannon (Scott) MonBeck of Athens; four grandchildren, Christopher Daniel Mitchell, John Montgomery, and Brett and Aaron MonBeck ; five great grandchildren; and four sisters, Mary (Herb) Brown of Athens, Carol (Dave) Smith of Nelsonville, Esther (Rod) Lamp of St. Mary's, West Virginia, and Donna (Doug) Graham of Gloucester, Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Edward Montgomery; his mother, Mary Elizabeth Reid; his stepfather, William Reid; an infant daughter, Lori Dianna; a grandson, Avery MonBeck; and six brothers, Fred, Will, Jack, Ted, Chuck, and Randy Montgomery.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday May 31, 2017 at the Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville. Interment will be in the Hilltop Cemetery, Millfield. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
