Robert D. Head, Jr., age 75 of 110 Charles Towne Dr., Danville, VA passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at his residence with his wife at his side.
He was born October 25, 1941 in Miami, FL to the late Robert D. Head, Sr. and the late Berniece J. Frank Head.
Robert was married to his first wife the late Carol Jean Finney Head for 46 wonderful years.
He later married Judith D. Lyons who survives of the residence.
He proudly served his country for 20 years during the Vietnam Era as a member of the US Air Force before retiring as an E6. He went to work as network manager on Homestead Air Force Base for Sperry/Unisys. While living in Miami, FL he was a member of Wayside Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, volunteered with the special ministries, and sang in the choir. After retiring in 2006 he moved to Macon, GA. He continued to serve at 2nd Baptist Church in Warner Robbins, GA along with singing in the choir. He also enjoyed singing in the Barber Shop Quartet, and furthered his love for HAM Radio, by volunteering for a GA Disaster Relief Organization. In 2015 he followed his son to Danville, VA and continued his passion for praising the Lord in song by singing in the church choir.
In addition to his wife, Judith D. Lyons: a son, Stephen D. Head and wife Dianne of Danville: a step-son Timothy Lyons and wife Alison of S. Orange, NJ: a step-daughter, Pamela Davidson and husband William of Durham, NC: two grandchildren, Stephanie A. Head and Christopher Settles: three step-grandchildren, Shelby Davidson, Daniel Davidson and Jasmine Lyons.
In addition to his parents and first wife he was predeceased by a son, Christopher C. Head in 1986.
The family will receive friends 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Norris Funeral Services, Inc., West End Chapel, 511 Church Ave., Danville, VA prior to the service.
A memorial service will be held 5:00 p.m., Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Norris Funeral Services, West End Chapel following the visitation with Pastor Seth Lackey officiating.
A Private interment will be held at a later date at Bushnell National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
